When construction bids come in, it’s natural to look at the bottom line first.
If one contractor is significantly less expensive than the others, choosing that number can seem like an easy decision. Sometimes it is. A low bid can absolutely be a good bid.
But before making that decision, it’s important to understand why the numbers are different.
Two contractors can look at the same set of drawings and come back with very different prices. Not necessarily because one is charging more, but because they have made different assumptions about what the project will require.
A good construction decision isn’t simply about choosing the lowest number. It’s about understanding what is - and isn’t - included in that number.
